If you prefer walking, stroll George Street toward Circular Quay, stopping at First Fleet Park, which overlooks Sydney Harbour, to take in this popular, yet incredible view. Commemorating the 1788 arrival of the British in Australia, First Fleet Park is located approximately one block from the harbor. From this park, the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge are visible, affording a feeling that you’ve finally arrived in Australia.

Save your Aussie dollars by skipping a walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge, opting instead for a journey to the Sydney Tower. From the top of this building, enjoy a 360-degree view of the entire city. It is from this vantage point that all of Sydney’s most popular attractions, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, the city’s suburbs and the Blue Mountains, are visible. Sydney Tower’s SKYWALK, which stands 879 feet high, provides more impressive views. At twice the height of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, SKYWALK at the Sydney Tower offers some of the best views of the entire city.

As one of the world’s most recognizable structures, the Sydney Opera House is a magnet for tourists. Designed by Jørn Utzon in 1956, the opera house has become a symbol of not only Sydney, but Australia. For a local’s perspective, take in a performance during your visit. While the Sydney Opera House hosts contemporary performers, a classical performance by one of the opera house’s resident companies is one of the most memorable souvenirs that you can take from the city.

Have fun while learning about the history of Sydney’s landmark pubs and their importance to Australia by taking a pub tour of The Rocks neighborhood. Not to be confused with a pub-crawl, the tour visits five well-known pubs, dating back to the 19th century. During the tour, knowledgeable guides share the history of Sydney, mysteries of The Rocks area, and the reasons some of the pubs are known as “Sydney’s oldest.”
