Safety Patrol

AAA School Safety Patrol — AAA Northampton County

Since 1920, the AAA School Safety Patrol has helped safeguard millions of schoolchildren each year. As one of AAA’s oldest programs, it now includes more than 600,000 children nationwide.

Almost as recognizable to motorists as a stop sign, AAA School Safety Patrol members wear the familiar Sam Browne belt, which circles the waist and crosses over the shoulder. This nationally recognized traffic indicator reminds drivers to slow down and drive carefully when schoolchildren are nearby.

Many famous Americans have served as AAA School Safety Patrol members, including former U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, five Supreme Court justices, five Olympic gold medalists and 21 astronauts.

AAA Northampton County supports the AAA School Safety Patrol program by providing patrol materials and equipment. Each year, patrol members are recognized with a pizza party and individual award ceremonies at their schools.
