Soaking up Luxury in Cancun and the Rivera Maya
Posted - July 23, 2018
This resort area has a growing population of people who speak English, a strong dollar exchange rate, and a wide variety of hotels and resorts. At Cancun International Airport I was greeted by transportation operator AmStar. Our first stop was the new Unico 20°87° resort. This property just opened in March 2017, and though it’s part of the Hard Rock Hotel company, Unico couldn’t be more different. This quiet and relaxing, adults-only, all-butler, all-inclusive hotel has 448 rooms that all face the Caribbean Sea. Guests here are definitely spoiled by the butler service.
The Hard Rock Riviera Maya, a few miles north, is an oceanfront, all-inclusive property with more than 1,200 rooms and is divided into the Hacienda (for families) and Heaven (adults only). And just like the chain’s reputation demands, Hard Rock fun is foremost! The resort just opened a new wing called Woodward that specializes in indoor skateboarding, BMX biking, trampolines, tumble floors, rock walls, sound booths for a DJ, vocal and instrumental recordings, video editing stations, and more.
Farther up the beach in Riviera Maya is the all-luxury El Dorado Maroma, an all-inclusive, adults-only resort that is the first property in Mexico to feature over-the-water bungalows called Palafitos. These private havens have glass floors that peer down into the clear water to watch the sea life below; their own sun decks and ladder access to the ocean; outdoor rain showers and Jacuzzis, private infinity pools, and 24-hour butler service.
Traveling northward into Cancun, the adults-only Secrets: the Vine is located in the popular Zona Hotelera and is indeed an Unlimited-Luxury resort. The live nightly entertainment and daily activities around the property prepared me for the lazy afternoons on the warm white sand beach and shimmering infinity pools…aahh.
On the northern end of Cancun’s Hotel Zone is the ultra-luxury Le Blanc Spa Resort, which has been the recipient of the AAA 5-Diamond Honor seven years in a row. This adults-only, all-inclusive paradise is sleek in design. Aromatherapy is customized for your room; in-room double tubs are perched in front of private floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the sea; and the infinity pools and swim-up bars face the private white-sand beach – a perfect spot to await your personalized spa experience in their award-winning Le Blanc Spa.
My trip to Mexico left me wanting to stay longer and see more (such as the Tulum cliffs and ancient Mayan ruins), do more (swim in the cavernous cenotes), and ultimately relax more. I look forward to returning some day soon!
